Liberia: Nation Commences Shipment of Iron Ore

During the now much-criticized Liberia’s economic heydays, when her economy was second only to that of Japan, iron ore was the mainstay of her export. However, the fourteen years of war, which followed the dwindling of the iron ore industry due to slumping global prices, compounded its woes and ran it aground. For 20 years, Liberian iron ore mines in the north and west of the country had been anything but part of the nation’s economy recovery efforts. Now, the situation is changing.
